Liv Douglas holds the record for the number of Idaho Beaverhead Mountains climbed at 173 peaks. Idaho has a total of 189 Beaverheads (21 of which are unranked), including quite a few on the ID/MT border. He has also climbed 38 Beaverheads that reside solely in the State of Montana. As of November 2024, Rick Baugher is the second-most prolific Idaho Beaverhead climber with 138 peaks conquered. During 2024, Liv climbed five new Idaho Beaverheads, including a newly-ranked Idaho Beaverhead (Peak 8398) and two Idaho Beaverheads on the Continental Divide (Peak 9911 and Peak 9743). Liv has climbed the Idaho Beaverheads from both the Idaho side and the Montana side.

Liv’s Beaverhead journey began in July 2012 with a climb of both Eighteenmile Peak (11,150 feet) and Cottonwood Benchmark (11,029 feet) from the Montana side. His journey has spanned 93 hiking days with 887 miles and over 308,000 feet of elevation gain. All of the Beaverheads were climbed solo and as day hikes, with no assistance from a MC or ATV. No doubt, he has worn out a few pairs of hiking boots in so doing. Thanks to his extensive contributions, the IACG website covers information on all of Idaho’s 189 Beaverheads, including numerous route descriptions and many photographs.

Idaho’s Beaverheads range from 11,000-foot peaks to 4,000-foot peaks as follows: 11ers(8), 10ers(32), 9ers(65), 8ers(39), 7ers(15), 6ers(16), 5ers(13), and 4ers(1). Liv has climbed Idaho’s highest Beaverhead (Scott Peak at 11,393 feet) as well as Idaho’s lowest Beaverhead (Comet Benchmark at 4,753 feet) and many peaks in between. Liv’s annual tally, by calendar year, is as follows: 2012(2), 2014(6), 2016(5), 2017(27), 2019(28), 2020(55), 2021(1), 2023(44), and 2024(5). He has plans to climb a few more Idaho Beaverheads during 2025. Liv considers Italian Peak East (11,004 feet) to be the hardest Idaho Beaverhead climbed to date, with Freeman Peak (10,273 feet) a close second.
