Burnt Creek WSA HP is an overlooked, ranked ridge hump that sits north of [the more impressive] East Burnt Peak (10,149 feet). It can be climbed either individually from East Fork Burnt Creek or in combination with nearby East Burnt Peak via an easy ridge traverse. USGS Burnt Creek

Access

Same as for East Burnt Peak. This is the second leg of a 2-peak adventure that includes East Burnt Peak (10,149 feet) and Burnt Creek WSA HP. It covers 7.0 miles with 2,525 feet of elevation gain round trip.

South Ridge, Class 2

The Climb

From the 9,500-foot connecting saddle with East Burnt Peak, scramble north then northeast on scrub and shale to the northeast end of the summit crest Burnt Creek WSA HP. The summit has a modest cairn. The south ridge is open and presents no problems.

Northwest Face, Class 2

The Descent

From the summit, descend west down a face/shoulder of short scrub. Angle right/northwest into a high meadow/bowl that has some springs and nice green foliage. From this lush bowl, aim to reach a pine forest in a drainage to the right/north. This bushwhack is in open grass and scrub and is not difficult. Head down through the pine forest, staying on its left/west edge in open sagebrush. This descent leads to a merger with a wet drainage coming down from the right/east. Follow this drainage west on a game trail (mostly) to its merger with East Fork Burnt Creek. From there, follow the decent game/use trail down through the pine forest and back to the trailhead parking area.
