This peak is not in the book. Joseph Huit reports that the peak was “named after Pvt Hubert Eugene Zumwalt. Wounded in action on June 12, 1918 at Belleau Woods. Died of wounds on June 13, 1918. His body came home in July 1921 and is buired in Morris Hill cemetery in Boise, Idaho. He was a member of H co 2nd Idaho Infantry (Boise), F co 2nd Battalion 116th engineers 41st division, and F co 2nd Battalion 2nd Engineers 2nd Division AEF. Mount Zumwalt is located on the western fringe of the Sawtooth Range NNW of Grandjean. John Platt and two companions skied the peak’s Southwest Ridge from the point where Grandjean Road crosses the base of the ridge. This route will work for a Summer climb.
