Elevation: 10,203 ft
Prominence: 302
This peak is not in the book. Published November 2024
Thanks to updated LiDAR measurements, Peak 10203 is now a ranked summit. It sits on the Idaho/Montana border high on the Continental Divide. Peak 10203 is, in fact, a ranked bump on the northeast ridge of Baldy Mountain (10,777 feet). Ironically, Baldy Mountain is not a ranked summit. Go figure. USGS Morrison Lake
Access from Idaho
From the Idaho side, you have two options. Option #1 is to climb up over Baldy Mountain and then follow the Continental Divide northeast to Peak 10203 and return up over Baldy Mountain (see the Baldy Mountain page). This is a Class 2 journey with a lot of elevation gain.
Option #2 is to reach Peak 10203 from Long Canyon and Big Bear Creek. But you will need an ATV or MC to get close enough to the peak to make this feasible. Ride up Big Bear Creek to reach a hiking trail that heads up into Long Canyon. This trail leaves Long Canyon and climbs southeast up onto the Continental Divide. Follow the Continental Divide southwest to the summit. This is also a Class 2 route.
Access from Montana
From Exit 23/Dell on I-15 in southwestern Montana, make your way to the Morrison Lake ATV Trail via Big Sheep Creek Road then Cabin Creek Road/Medicine Lodge Road. Hike (or ride) the ATV Trail to Morrison Lake. From the lake, hike northwest on a jeep road to Lake Gulch. Bushwhack west up Lake Gulch and cross an intervening ridge to reach the east ridge at about 9,000 feet. Follow the Class 2 ridge to the summit.
