Peak 3446 sits above Thompson Lake in the Coeur d’Alene Mountains on the east side of Coeur d’Alene Lake. This area is a mix of private and public land, so be careful. This climb is entirely on National Forest Land. USGS Mount Coeur d’Alene
Access
From ID-97 on Carlin Bay on the east side of Coeur d’Alene Lake, drive east then south up [signed] CR-312/Asbury Road (which becomes South Asbury Road) for 2.7 miles to an unsigned junction with FSR-808. Turn left/east onto FSR-808 and drive 0.6 miles to an unsigned junction with an unmapped, gated/closed Forest Service Road. Park at the closure gate (2,985 feet; 47⁰30’46”N, 116⁰44’12”W).
West Ridge, Class 2
The Climb
From the gated road closure, hike about 0.3 miles east up the old road then leave it at a gully. Climb a grassy opening to reach the ridge crest. Weave your way up through the pine forest, using grassy open lanes as available. Follow the left/north side of a row of pines in open, easy grass/scrub to reach the small, semi-open summit. The high point is a nearby pine tree on the edge of the forest. The summit is at 47⁰30’42”N, 116⁰43’34”W.
