Peak 5684 is located just northeast of Lolo Pass on the Idaho/Montana border in the Bitterroot Mountains. Like many peaks in this area, it is covered by thick forest on one side and an old clear-cut on the opposite side. To climb the peak, look for a gated road leaving the south side of US-12 just east of the easternmost road that leads to the visitor center. Follow this road east a couple of hundred yards and park. Climb up to the Idaho/Montana border and follow the ridge to the summit by staying within the clear-cut. I found sections of game trails in places that led me through the bear grass and brush. The route is 0.9 miles and requires 450 feet of elevation gain. Class 2. USGS Lolo Hot Springs
