Elevation: 6,603 ft
Prominence: 373
This peak is not in the book. Published June 2022
Peak 6603 (Collett Mountain) is located on the south side of Pixley Basin. I recommend the name Collett Mountain for this peak to honor the owner of a private parcel of land in Pixley Basin. The owner has allowed the public to cross his land, which would otherwise make reaching a huge stretch of Owyhee Mountains terrain difficult. USGS Pixley Basin
Access
Primary access information for this peak and its surroundings is found at the following link: Castle Creek Area Access
On the west side of Collett Mountain, a seldom-used 2-track road runs east from Castle Creek/Pixley Basin Roads. This road definitely requires a 4WD and gets worse as it heads east. Follow this road east as far as you dare and park. I parked at roughly 6,040 feet but could have driven farther.
West Ridge, Class 2
The broad west ridge leads to the summit with a minimum of ups and downs. From my parking spot to the summit, it is 3.0 miles with 528 feet of elevation gain round trip.
