Peak 7220 is located along Medicine Lodge Road in the southern section of the Beaverhead Mountains. It sits above two creek convergences: the convergence of Fritz Creek and Medicine Lodge Creek and the convergence of Cold Creek and Medicine Lodge Creek. The land comprising Peak 7220 is a mix of private and public land, so be careful. USGS Fritz Peak

Access

Medicine Lodge Road begins 6.0 miles west of Dubois, ID on ID-22. Turn right/north onto [signed] Medicine Lodge Road and reset your odometer. At 21.0 miles, the pavement ends. At 25.7 miles, reach a signed junction with Irving Creek Road. Continue another mile northwest up Medicine Lodge Road and park along the road at the mouth of a gully on the right/east side of the road (6,480 feet).

East Face, Class 2

The Climb

Cross to the west side of Medicine Lodge Road and bushwhack across marshy Medicine Lodge Creek. Scramble west-southwest up a scrub slope/shoulder to reach the summit area just north of the high point. Walk a short distance left/south to the summit. Be careful to jump the corner of BLM land to remain on BLM land early on during this climb. I was not comfortable with the cattle fencing near Medicine Lodge Road and saw no clear demarcation between the private ranch land and BLM land, so I did not pursue this climb. The land is not posted right here but seems to be managed as private land even though land management maps show it clearly as BLM land.
