Peak 7740 is dwarfed by surrounding Log Mountain Deadwood Divide peaks but is still a great vantage point from which to view the immediate country. Unfortunately, the area around the peak is burned and there is a lot of downed timber to cross. USGS Landmark

Access

Access the peak from the Warm Lake Summit on [paved] Warm Lake/Landmark Road/ FS-579. Follow the road east past Warm Lake toward Landmark. A sign at the pass identifies the Summit Lake Campground. There is a toilet along the highway and 3 primitive campsites in the trees on the north side of the road.

East Face/Summit Ridge, Class 2

The trail to Summit Lake leaves from a Forest Service bulletin board located in the campground. There are a couple of parking spots in the campground or you can park along the highway at the campground entrance. The trail to the lake is forested at first and then crosses into a burned area that completely engulfs the lake and the peak. Follow the trail to Summit Lake and pass the lake on its North Side. You will fight deadfall all the way from the lake to the base of the summit ridge. Once on the summit ridge, follow it to the top. Round trip stats: 1.6 miles with 379 feet of elevation gain.
