Peak 9340 sits northeast of Cape Horn Mountain and provides excellent views of Collie Lake. Calling this peak “Collie Lake Peak” seems fitting. Being so close to Cape Horn Mountain, this peak has been overlooked as I recorded the first ascent on the Lists of John website. Certainly USGS surveyors visited this peak since a USGS Benchmark exists on nearby Cape Horn Mountain. USGS Cape Horn Lakes
West Ridge, Class 2
I accessed this peak from the Lola Lakes Trail and left the trail to gain the Southeast Ridge of Cape Horn Peak. From Cape Horn Peak, I descended to the saddle and followed the obstacle-free West Ridge to the summit. The views of Collie Lake are excellent and are well worth the extra effort if coming from Cape Horn Mountain. If hiking to Collie Lake, there is apparently an unofficial trail to the lake and there are no obstacles that I could see leading to the summit. A Winter ascent may be possible but would require an unpleasant return climb over Cape Horn Mountain from ID-21. Collie Lake Peak is a great early- or late-season hike.
