This peak is one of nine Idaho summits with some form of “prospect” in its name and one of three ranked mountains named “Prospect Peak.” This Prospect Peak has a small mining claim on its eastern slopes and is located northeast of North Chilco Mountain and just north of FS-332. Heavily forested, the views from the summit are almost nonexistent. USGS Lakeview
Access
Access the peak from FS-332, which crosses the northern section of the Couer d’Alene Mountains from US-95 and the Bunco Road in the west to Lakeview in the east. See the North Chilco Mountain page for access information. Follow this good gravel road to the point where it crosses the peak’s South Ridge. You can park here.
South Ridge, Class 2
From the point where FS-332 crosses the South Ridge, either struggle up the brushy, forested ridge or hike up the 4WD road (not shown on the map) that leads northeast to the mining claim, which is on private property. Following the road allows you to bypass some of the thick forest on the lower ridge but you will need to cut back to the ridge before you reach the private property. No matter which way you go, the summit is only 300 vertical feet above the road.
