Snow Cone (6,050 feet), Spatter Cones North (6,050 feet), and Spatter Cones South (6,050 feet) are all accessible from the Spatter Cones Trailhead in Craters of the Moon National Monument. Scrambling to the top of any of these peaks is strictly prohibited (by signage) to protect the fragile terrain. USGS Inferno Cone

Access

From US-20 about 18 miles west of Arco, turn left/south into the main entrance for Craters of the Moon National Monument. Follow the loop road and then a short side road to the Spatter Cones Trailhead parking area.

Closed Route

From the Spatter Cones Trailhead parking area, Spatter Cones South lies to the south about 200 yards or so. Unlike Snow Cone and Spatter Cones North, there is no hiking trail leading to it. There is signage strictly prohibiting off-trail hiking in this area (and off-trail climbing to the summit) to protect the fragile terrain. Although a few climbers have ventured well off-trail to climb this peak, I strongly advise against doing so because it is on National Monument Land and is monitored by Park officials who live at Craters of the Moon National Monument. For an unranked summit, it’s just not worth the risk.
