Split Rock is a rather insignificant rocky outcrop that is located along Red Road in Clark County. As its name implies, it is a rock formation with a massive gap in its center and earns its name. And, though it lacks much prominence, it is important enough to have a USGS quadrangle named after it. USGS Split Rock

Access

Same as for North Junipers HP except continue north on Red Road from its signed junction with Grassy Ridge Road. Drive north (then northwest) up Red Road for another 12.3 miles and park on Red Road next to [the obvious] Split Rock. Split Rock is only about 75 yards away. Park along the wide road here; there are no parking pullouts (6,180 feet; 44⁰14’22”N, 111⁰51’46”W).

West Ridge, Class 2

The Climb

From Red Road, bushwhack northeast through scrub and ridge boulders to reach the boulders atop the east summit. Continue north around the gap between the east and west ridges of Split Rock. Bushwhack through scrub and boulders to reach the top of the west summit. The east summit is probably the high point of Split Rock, but it’s a close call. Stand on both the east and west summits just to be sure. From the west summit, bushwhack briefly through scrub to return to Red Road.
