Tubbs Hill is located on the south side of Coeur d’Alene and is almost completely surrounded by massive Coeur d’Alene Lake. This area is a mix of private and public (City of Coeur d’Alene) land, so be careful. A trail system gets you to the summit. USGS Coeur d’Alene
Access
McEuen Park is located on the south side of Coeur d’Alene just south of Sherman Avenue, between 3rd Street and 7th Street. I parked on Front Street just west of 6th Street (free 2-hour parking).
North Face/Northwest Ridge, Class 1
The Climb
Find a well-beaten hiking trail about midway across the south edge of McEuen Park (“Main Loop Trail”) that heads south up through the thick forest. Upon reaching a signed junction with the “Summit Trail,” follow that trail to the semi-open summit of Tubbs Hill. The high point is a massive ground boulder that is quite easy to stand on. Views from the summit are limited due to the surrounding pine forest.
