Wallace Peak is a double-humped summit that overlooks Wallace Lake in a burn area. It is most easily climbed from FSR-020/Ridge Road to its west. The rocky south summit is slightly higher than the gentler north summit. It is a mere 6-minute bushwhack to the summit from the road via the southwest face. USGS Leesburg
Access
From the Sinclair Gas Station at the north end of Salmon on US-93, drive 3.1 miles north on US-93 to a signed junction with Diamond Creek Road at the Lemhi County Fairgrounds. Turn left/west onto Diamond Creek Road and reset your odometer. At 0.5 miles, the road bends hard right/north. At 0.8 miles, reach a “Y” junction. Go left onto [signed] FSR-023. At 11.6 miles, reach a 4-way signed junction on a saddle. Head left/south onto FSR-020/Ridge Road and drive 4.8 miles to a roadside pullout at the base of the southwest face. Park here (8,635 feet; 45⁰14’30”N, 114⁰00’59”W).

The Climb
From the pullout area, bushwhack northeast up an old 2-track to reach the base of the rocky summit cap. The road simply disappears in open grass before reaching the rocky, burnt forest of the summit cap. Scramble up onto the highest boulder. I built a cairn atop the highest boulder and removed a cairn that was on a slightly-lower boulder nearby. The summit has a magnificent view of Wallace Lake. I visited the nearby, non-rocky north summit but it is slightly lower than the south summit, according to my altimeter. This entire peak is a burn area. Even the summit boulders were blackened by the forest fire.
