Charlie grew up in Bozeman, hiked around a lot, took a climbing course in college, might have become a full-time dirtbag climber but had to stay in school or potentially get drafted. Moved to Idaho in 1978. Marriage, job, and children all proved to be distractions but he still managed to keep at it with annual trips to the Tetons, occasional forays into the North Cascades, and some cragging here and there, especially after cams and sticky rubber came along. More focused on Idaho the last few years, now nibbling away at the Eleveners, only 15 or 20 to go depending on whose list (seems to be something of a moving target). Keeps repeating the same stupid mistakes out in the hills but apparently enjoys it.
