Elevation: 7,933 ft
Prominence: 373
This peak is not in the book.
Peak 7933 sits northeast of Burnt Knob. The peak is arguably the high point of White Top Mountain. The official name was placed on the lower summit which sits to the east. USGS Sabe Mountain
The summit can be reached by FST-539 (Forest Service Map)/FS-502 (trailhead sign), which begins on the north side of Burnt Knob. See the Burnt Knob page to learn how to access the trailhead. The trail crosses a lot of burned terrain and was in need of maintenance in August 2017. The trail drops down from the trailhead. The trail soon takes a hard right and switchbacks down toward the Burnt Knob Lakes. This turn was hidden by downed trees. I added two cairns and covered the false trail with a rock and dead wood. See my GPS track. The trail soon regains the ridge top and then switches from side to side as it moves toward the peak. It is 1.8 miles with 375 feet of elevation gain to reach the summit.
